How to Obtain Membership in the SHDA:

To participate in dance-outs [a performance of Highland Dancing given by SHDA members at community events and special functions], complete the Dance-Out form [see link below] and mail it to:

With the exception of their first competition, dancers or their parent(s) must be members of the SHDA in order for the dancers to participate in any competition at subsidized rates. Each SHDA dancer is required to supply a volunteer for one shift at Saskatoon competitions.

SOBHD - The Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing is the World Governing Body of Scottish Highland Dancing responsible for promoting, encouraging and developing Highland Dancing throughout the World and for setting and controlling the technique and movements upon which Highland Dancing is based.

SOBHD Registration Cards

In order to compete in competitions throughout North America or overseas, all dancers are required to hold a current SOBHD Registration card (also referred to as ScotDance cards).  
SOBHD cards are issued as follows, and renewed annually:

Primary

Valid for dancers aged 6 years and under. At 7 years, dancer moves to Beginner status.  [Green in colour]

Beginner

Valid until the date of the dancer's first Novice competition [Blue in colour]

Novice

Valid until the date of the dancer's first Intermediate competition [Yellow in colour]

Intermediate

Valid for one year from the date of the dancer's first Intermediate competition [Pink in colour]

Premier

Valid for as long as the dancer continues to compete [White in colour] [New picture and card every year]

The cards are supplied by the ScotDance Canada affiliate in each province and are required to be renewed by January of each year.  For change of status during the year, there is no fee.
